DESTINATION GUINEA;

The country of Guinea in West Africa is an enigma to visitors and organizations interested in its marvelous natural beauty and massive natural resources. It’s hard to balance this with the fact that it is one of the poorest countries in Africa. Often described as “The Jewel of Africa,” it offers unparalleled opportunities for anyone with a heart and spirit to help a dynamic and peaceful mosaic of people that call Guinea their home.

Services Offered:

1.    Trip Planning.
Advise on how to make the most of your trip and plans to visit Guinea, how to travel, and what to expect, how to prepare for the trip ( optimal dates, visas, inoculations, places to stay, what to take, etc). Help to navigate through customs and the protocol of entry, and land you safely at your hotel or pension. Suggestions for making appointments, and providing language translation (English, French, local languages and dialects). Familiarization with local customs and facilities to enhance your visit.
2.    Ground Operation and Service.
If your needs are best served by local transportation, guides to help you, if you want added security, or schedules for appointments and meetings, Le Groupe Lyceum can help to make your visit a success. We can provide customized trip planning. The team of ground staff in Guinea has successfully organized individual visits, strategic planning, and conferences of up to 150 attendees.
3.    Tourism in Guinea.
The country is varied and offers diverse zones – from ocean-side tropical locations, desert-like and arid areas, rich agricultural lands with isolated villages, and the Forest region with Mount Nimba where you can visit and hike in canopied lush forests. Excellent beach hotels, small unique hotels perched on thundering waterfalls, exotic tucked-away places to eat local and international cuisine, climb mountains, dance with local peoples – it’s all there for you to enjoy! Your visit to Guinea can include internal flights, road-trips by “taxis”, or private chauffeured four-wheel drive vehicles. Take these trips for a day from Conakry – the nation’s capital, or expand your adventure into weeks of exploring and enjoying.
4.    Eco-tourism and Cultural Adventure.
You find yourself in Conakry with some time on your hands. Use that time to sample some unique and life-changing moments! Within sight of Conakry are the fabled Loos Islands where you can within an hour or two to visit attractive beaches and swim in the warm tropical ocean, or you can take a day to ply over in a wooden boat (pirogue) to the farthest island of Tamara – very rural and untouched by development. Take a nine kilometer hike along the spine of the island, walk under the canopies of huge shade trees, take a guided tour of the village of Fotoba, hear presentations of the unique history (slaving, pirating, incarceration, fabled figures in the history of Guinea), visit the primary school and meet the eager children, eat lunch prepared for you at a beach-side facility, and return to Conakry refreshed and invigorated after seeing the sights and meeting the wonderful villagers. You will be accompanied by a trained guide to work with the local people while they show you their island, and someone will be with you to help carry items and get you safely in and out of the wooden boats. Take home mementos of lovely local sea-shells, basket ware made on the island from local natural materials, clothing made by the local women in the village, and pictures and memories that will never leave you! Not only will you have great memories, but your visit will help the local people in very tangible ways.
